Lactus sativa. An heirloom passed to us from Tom Jerde of Westby, WI. Sow in April for Spring harvest and late Aug for Fall. Lovely small 8” butter-heads with lime-green leaves that survive many a frosts. May overwinter in a cold frame. Love the soft albeit crunchy smooth leaves. The salad dressing clings to the leaf. So good.
