Smirnoff opened their distilleries in 1864 and became the world's favorite vodka over the century. Smirnoff was established by P.A. Smirnov in Moscow, Russia. P.A. became famous by filtering his vodka through charcoal columns more than the rest of his competition. He distilled it five times before filtering the vodka. This process is an essential part of creating the "St. Petersburg model". In 1896 P.A. Smirnov creates the "Table Wine No.21" and becomes the most successful selling vodka. Vladimir Smirnov joins the company in 1896 and joins the board at the age of 21. In 1914 Russia goes dry and forces Smirnoff to close their doors.
