Description for INTRUDER FROM THE SEA by Gordon McDonell: It all began that Sunday on the beach at Santa Monica. Sam Freeman was sunning himself, trying to forget the insurance business.  Surprise, then a vague uneasiness came over him when Johnny Oakes appeared, but Sam suspected nothing. Sam's wife Alice was keeping an eye on their young family, Pete and Janie.  The instant Alice looked away Pete managed to get himself caught in the strong tide. There were grateful, of course, but Sam wished that someone else had saved Pete.  Anyone but Johnny Oakes. Later, as Sam went far out after Alice, he saw a man swimming in her direction, apparently from the fishing boat off Pointe Dume.  "Is it Friday today?" the man called to Alice.  Suddenly Johnny Oakes was close by, swimming strongly toward the man.  "Is it Friday today?" Johnny called.  Together Johnny Oakes and "Friday" swam toward the beach.. It was all there---the man from the sea, the strange greeting, Johnny Oakes, the rush of half-suppressed memories from Sam's past.  Sam more than suspected the---he knew. Before Same could go to the FBI the FBI came to him.  And before he thought too long about his family's safety, the four of them had volunteered.  There were live bait in the trap, the game was a ring of Russian spies, and the chase was on.
