Having had an encounter with her abusive husband the evening prior, Billie Holiday appeared onstage in Cologne wearing dark sunglasses, and the reper- toire included a song written by her entitled "I Love My Man" (a.k.a. "Billie's Blues"). The singer may have been battered by her disastrous life, but she was nevertheless able to move her audience.
