Mariposa Grove Mariposa Grove Mariposa Grove is a sequoia grove located near Wawona, California, United States, in the southernmost part of Yosemite National Park. It is the largest grove of Giant Sequoias in the park, with several hundred mature examples of the tree. Two of its trees are among the 30 largest Giant Sequoias in the world. The Mariposa Grove closed on July 6, 2015, for restoration, and isn't expected to open again until the spring of 2017. The lower grove and most of the upper grove are closed, as well as the road to the grove. You can still hike the outer loop trail, which provides access to some of the trees in the upper grove, but you'll have to hike there from Wawona or the Fish Camp Snow Play area. The Mariposa Grove is the largest and most impressive of the Yosemite-area giant sequoia groves, but if you'd still like to see giant sequoias, you can find them at the Tuolumne, Merced, and Nelder Groves.
