This flag was adopted as the national flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) on November 30, 1955. It became the national flag of Vietnam following the Vietnam War on July 2, 1976. The golden star is often described in political training sessions as representing the new socialist classes (laborers, peasants, intellectuals, the military, and the youth), designated by the Vietnamese Communist Party as well as other communist parties; while, the red represents the proletarian blood and revolution.
