About Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic who is now recognized as a pioneer of abstract art. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Af Klint's work was highly experimental and explored themes of spirituality and mysticism. She believed that her paintings were guided by spiritual forces and that she was a conduit for their expression. Her works often feature complex geometric forms, vibrant colors, and otherworldly symbols and motifs. Af Klint is now recognized as one of the first artists to create abstract art, predating better-known abstract artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich by several years. However, her work was largely unrecognized during her lifetime, and it wasn't until the 1980s that her work began to gain wider recognition.
