This wry, spooky, ultimately exultant poem is by the first-century Greek poet Marcus Argentarius, here in luminous translation by Brooks Haxto. I discovered it when researching my opera Lysistrata, and found its ancient celebration of community and the present moment irresistible. — Mark Adamo
