The Numbers on Red
This dial was inspired by a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The font for the numbers was inspired by Charles Demuth's I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold. I was impressed by how the number dominated the work of art and the Art Deco font. I sat down and sketched this dial with excessively large numbers immediately. The dial is handcrafted with .999 Fine Silver and 24K gold wire using traditional cloisonné techniques. The wires which outline the cells for the enamel are hand bent and attached to the dial. Each cell is filled with vitreous (grand feu) enamel from Japan and fired multiple times in the kiln at about 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. The watch case is made in Stainless Steel by the Cincinnati Watch Company. The watch features a Swiss Made Automatic Movement. Dial Artist: Jordan P. Ficklin
