Bielefelder Kennhuhn, new breed to our farm this year. The gentle giant of the chicken world was developed in the 1970s in the area of Bielefeld, Germany by Gerd Roth. This breed is a dual-purpose bird, fast growing with a large meaty carcass, roosters can weigh 10 to 12 pounds. Hens can lay up to 200 large brown eggs per year. Despite their large size the Bielefelder is a very gentle, non-aggressive bird. Another great attribute of the Bielefelder is the fact that the chicks can be easily auto sexed at hatch. Their color pattern is crele or cuckoo red partridge. They're listed as a cold hearty breed and should produce eggs even in cold temperatures.
