This unusual item was manufactured for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) specifically for the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba that failed. These 30 caliber ammunition pouches were designed to hold four 30 round ‘banana clips’ for the M1 carbine but they were never used. The poor-quality nubby cotton material, the unusual shade of green and the lack of any identifying stamps or labels purposely differed from the original U.S. Army version in order to prevent the invaders equipment from being traced back to the U.S. Government!
