It is generally accepted that they are based on the writing of William Sharp in his 1895 novel Dominium of Dreams. Sharp was part of the Celtic Revival movement that expressed a renewed interest in many aspects of the Celtic culture; he wrote also under the pseudonym Fiona MacLeod.  This remarkable pendant employs the uniquely beautiful geometric form known as a Mobius strip, named after the German mathematician, August Ferdinand Mobius (1790-1868).
