Teaching informational text in high school ELA can be difficult at times.  I use an article of the week and student-choice hybrid model to make sure that I am covering the standards while still keeping students engaged.    Every week, I’ll pass out a new article-of-the-week graphic organizer.  Each organizer targets a specific RI standard and gives students both a reading task and a writing task that correlates with the standard.   I choose RI standards that cover each RI portion for grades 9-12. Grades 6-8 will be coming soon! I’ve included an assignment sheet for students to use that includes an overview of what they’ll do each week and a selection of websites that they can use for choice articles.  This is a completely editable template so that you can re-work it to fit your students’ own needs.  Please note that this product does NOT contain an article, but rather a graphic organizer + rubric that can be used with any text.    When you purchase this product, you’ll receive: A student instruction sheet (editable) 2-page graphic organizer for RI Standard: RI.2 - Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text. Rubric for teacher to use when grading graphic organizer Total Pages: 4 pages Answer Key: Rubric only Teaching Duration: 90 minutes
