USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 8-ish Native Range: Restricted to Burma and Yunnan, China. Soil: Well drained, low pH.  Light: Sun to bright shade. The plants are in 50% shade; it's too hot for them here to be in full sun. Height in the Garden: 8' Attributes: R griersonianum forms an elegant, open structured shrub to 8' tall. It sports red flowers in spring.  Notes: R. griersonianum is a gorgeous rhododendron in its own taxonomic group. The flowers of this species are red, which I always to seen in a natural, un-selected/hybridized species. Highly threatened in the wild due to habitat loss. Uses: Makes an elegant, open shrub good for use as a specimen or bright understory, large shrub.
