Marjorie Surface
Our Marjorie Collection delightfully features our exclusive reproduction French petticoat opal shades. With the timeless elegance of a ballerina, this romantic collection revels in memories of crème brûlée and nights at the Palais Garnier. Every milk glass Marjorie shade is handblown and then carefully pressed in a mold to create delicate pleats. No two shades are exactly alike. Made with solid brass parts and handblown glass, imperfections are inherent in our handcrafted artisan production giving each light vitality and authenticity. Namesake: Marjorie Louise Tallchief (1926 –2021) was the first American and Native American première danseuse étoile at the Paris Opéra Ballet. Marjorie’s older sister Elizabeth Marie Tallchief was New York City Ballet’s first major prima ballerina. The sisters were members of the Osage Nation. They were part of the “Five Moons”-- five Native American dancers from Oklahoma who took the international ballet world by storm in the 20th century.
