"Crossed Wires," original painting, 30" x 40"

Combining graphic linear detail and wide swaths of color, these expressive paintings dazzle through the harmonious and discordant use of rich colors. They draw inspiration from my weaving, and are a metaphor for the complexity and confusion of our times. Each piece is created using many layers of drips and pours. I work intuitively, letting the painting tell me what is needed rather than having a well-thought-out plan. The paintings start out messy, and don’t coalesce into an engaging composition until the final layer is applied. I never know ahead of time which layer will be the final one until something pulls the piece together, and it looks complete.
