The Birkin bag of Hermes is the first bag bearing a celebrity's name. In 1983, Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. Birkin placed her straw traveling bag in the overhead compartment, but the contents fell to the deck. She then explained to Dumas that it had been difficult to find a leather weekend bag she liked. Dumas then drew sketches on an airplane sick bag and after many drafts, revealed the final design in 1984. This Birkin is in Rose Azalee Epsom leather with palladium hardware and has tonal stitching, two straps with front toggle closure, a clochette with lock keys, and double rolled handles. The interior is lined with Rose Azalee chevre and has one zip pocket with a Hermès engraved zipper pull and an open pocket on the opposite side.
