This host plant supports many butterfly and moth caterpillars, including the Dreamy Duskywing (Erynnis icelus), Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa), and the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus). Birds and mammals will eat its seeds and foliage. Good for erosion control.
