
Same Scene Zine Workshop
TUESDAY, MAY 13TH Philadelphia illustrator and cartoonist Steve Teare will lead a zine-making workshop at Capricorn Books! The title of the workshop is "The Same Scene," and everyone will draw the same general scene into a zine booklet, but each guest will get to create their own dialogue and other narrative elements for their specific zine. The group will look at lots of books and artwork, discuss graphic story-telling and illustration styles, and have a good time hanging out and drawing together. About the instructor: Steve Teare is an illustrator based in Northwest Philadelphia. His drawings and comics have appeared in The New Yorker, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Believer Magazine, The Nib and other places. He illustrates and writes stories for children, and is represented by Erica Rand Silverman at Stimola Literary Studio. Participants will get to: -reference a variety of beautiful comics and art books for inspiration -practice a range of drawing and mark-making styles -discuss comics technique, style and humor -draw a comic strip prompt but come up with original narrative material and dialogue -make collaborative drawings and comic strips (if time allows) Participants will take home: -Their own illustrated zine -Their sketches and collaborative drawings -A "starter pack" collection of zines, postcards and other gifts by instructor Steve Teare
