"EVERY CHILD MATTERS" 1st place Contest Winner Design Art by: Spokane Tribal Member Uriah De La O Youth across Spokane had the opportunity to submit their original art drawings during the month of May as part of an awareness event for Orange Shirt Day. The contest and event were hosted in partnership with West Spokane Wellness Partnership, North Central High School, Spokane public Schools Native Education Coordinators, and Amerigroup.  🧡 Orange shirt day was created to educate people and promote awareness about the Indian residential school system and the impact it has had on Indigenous communities for over a century—an impact recognized as a cultural genocide, and an impact that continues today. The Orange Shirt Day planning committee members were deeply touched by Uriah’s submitted entry and blown away by his art. His design is being placed on T-shirts and used this fall for upcoming Orange Shirt Day awareness events. this contest was sponsored by AmeriGroup. to learn more about
