Almost Uncirculated Great Britain hammered sterling silver 1/2 crown coin. Struck for King Charles I from 1640 to 1641 (Star mint mark, ob and rx at approx 11:00 and 12:00, respectively). S-2779, 15.06g, approx 33mm. Superb strike and details for a hammered coin. Lightly toned with underlying luster, very appealing in hand! Obverse: Charles I on horseback left, with upright sword and flowing cloak, CAROLVS D G MAG BRI FRA ET HI REX (Charles by the grace of god king Great Britain, France and Ireland). Reverse: arms of Great Britain, France and Ireland, CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO (I rule under the auspices of Christ, relates to the divine right of kings). Certified by NGC to AU 50, Population Census: 2 coins, none higher. An very elusive type in high grade.
