In the 18th and early 19th centuries, women of all backgrounds wore mitts for a variety for reasons, including warmth, protection from the sun, and as a fashionable accessory. Mitts could be made in a range of qualities of silk, cotton, linen or wool. They could be made plain, but could also have simple or complex embroidered motifs. Based on extensive research, our pattern provides you with multi-sizes (XS to XL), four tip variations, assembly based on textile, two embroidery patterns and the option of lined or unlined. Suggested fabrics include light weight silk, light to medium weight cotton or linen to medium weight worsted wool.
