Antique Lacquered Gilt Wood StatueLotus Sutra Votive Shrine 日蓮三尊仏Nichiren Daishonin 日蓮大聖人Origin: Japan. Circa: Meiji Period, 1868-1912H 10.5 in. (26.6cm), W 8 in. (20cm), D 3 in. (7.5cm)Overall very good aged condition! Another resplendent serene giltwood shrine from our extensive Buddhist art collection. The shrine is a late 19th-early 20th-century wood carving, with an incense smoke-darkened surface from a hundred years of worship. Featuring two intricately carved small Buddhas (2”H) seated next to an inscribed spirit tablet, their eyes downcast in meditation, and hands are pressed together in Namaskar Blessing Mudra, their charming faces are vividly youthful, as they engaged in meditation with a serene expression, while lively and implicitly they appeared to be silently chanting Namu Myoho Renge Kyo (Glory to the Supreme Law of the Lotus Sutra, 南無妙法蓮華經), which is the central mantra chanted in all forms of Buddhism. As in Japan, the Lotus Sutra Butsudan is to be the true embodiment
