Antique Wood Kagamibuta Netsuke Crystal Ojimi 鏡蓋根付 Hidden Tiger 藏虎 In Bamboo Grove 竹園 Sig: not translated. Circa: 18th-early 19th century Netsuke: H 1.7 in. (4.5cm), W 1.7 in. (4.5cm), D 0.7 in. (1.25cm) Ojimi: H 7.5 in. (11cm), W 7.5 in. (14cm), D 0.75 in. (2cm) Condition: Aged worn netsuke, overall very good! A woodblock type (mokuhanga) kagamibuta manju, of a classic sumi style tiger hidden in the bamboo grove. Beautifully carved in cherry wood, stained with a rich black, bearing age and usage appearance with minor blemishes but is in very good condition. The large crystal ojimi and cord appeared to be the original attachments. Tiger is an ancient symbol of strength and bravery of the warrior class, the Kagamibuta Manju is likely once treasured by a man of a samurai warrior rank.
