This is a medium-sized, undescribed species from Southern Thailand. "The one that started it all", in a sense. The discovery of this species and its subsequent collection and propagation is what expanded the hobby of isopod keeping as actual pets and not just clean-up crew for bioactive tanks. They can adapt to a wide range of ventilation conditions, however, maintaining humidity and soil moisture is crucial because dry conditions can be fatal. It usually thrives in low ventilation and moist conditions, but excessive moisture with low ventilation can lead to higher mortality rates. This species is quite easy to culture and reproduces rapidly under favorable conditions. They tend to spend more time burrowed than other Thai Armadillidae and are not very active or visible within the enclosure until their numbers increase. Like other Armadillidae, this species can curl into a ball when disturbed.
