About This PaintingAre there things you suspect you believe smack dab in the middle of your soul, but you’re not allowed to? Sometimes I find it so very difficult to let myself know what I know, and if you come from a certain background, you might relate. Unfortunately, with their tendency to embrace hierarchies and practices of coercive control, religious institutions and tightly-knit traditional communities have the potential to do spectacular damage to our ability to be truthful with ourselves. In this mini seascape, I wanted to evoke the freedom & the clean, unbounded joy I have found in unhitching my life from beliefs and systems I couldn’t cling to any longer without doing violence to my integrity. Has it happened to you? You hung on for so long by your fingernails to something you thought you had to believe even if it killed you—and it almost did.
