
A Wrap of Mixed Mediums
As a fiber artist, I'm always curious about new ways to combine mediums in my work. This project is a reflection of this ambition, as it brings together crochet, knitting and embroidery in an expansive wrap. This wrap is the product of mixing multiple mediums from within the fiber arts: crochet, knitting and embroidery. Delicate crocheted granny squares line the length of one side of the piece. These were made with lace weight wool, hand dyed using plant extracts in Denmark. They served as the anchor of the piece, providing guidance for additional colors and textures. For the body of the wrap, I opted for a soft merino wool in a light taupe the dyer calls Antique Lace. This lovely wool has a beautiful drape, and serves as the perfect canvas for embroidery. I chose a chevron pattern to embroider the knitted fabric because I liked how the angled stripes echoed the motif and hues of the granny squares.
