Champagne Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Champagne NV
Le Mesnil is the cooperative of grape growers in Mesnil-sur-Oger, about 12 miles south of Epernay and one of thirteen villages in Champagne awarded the designation Grand Cru for its superior fruit. Champagne from this village is recognized as being among the most balanced and age-worthy in the entire Côte des Blancs. (For example, Salon and Krug's Clos du Mesnil Blanc de Blanc are crafted from grapes sourced from vineyards in this tiny hillside town.) Today's offer is the gorgeous fruit of the cooperative's efforts. THESE ARE KILLER BUBBLES, PEOPLE! The deets: Made from 100% chardonnay (hence the designation Blanc de Blancs, which means white wine from white grapes). Malolactic fermentation carried out in full. 3 years on the lees. Aged for an additional 6 months in bottle. The resulting juice is complex and delicious, striking a delicate balance between fruit-driven acidity and creamy texture.
