About the Wine Beringer Winery in Napa Valley holds the distinction of numerous "firsts" as a pioneer in the region. It was one of the first gravity fed facilities and among the first to operate using hand-dug caves and cellars. It was the first to give public tours in 1934, starting a Napa Valley hospitality tradition. It is the first and only winery to have both a red and a white wine named #1 Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator Magazine. The winery itself is a state historic landmark building. Beringer has had only eight winemakers in its history since 1868. Today, the winemaking is overseen by Mark Beringer, the great, great grandson of the founder. Beringer produces many wines, with a focus and specialty in Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines are sourced from top vineyards in Knights Valley, St. Helena, and Howell Mountain AVAs.
