Chaliapin's autobiography was co-written with his friend, the prominent writer Maxim Gorky, in 1916, with the first part published in 1917. It was later published in English under the title 'Pages from My Life' (New York, 1927). This release was followed by legal action from Chaliapin against the USSR for selling the rights to his book to other countries. The complete version of the autobiography was eventually published in Russian, based on Gorky's original manuscript, in the first volume of a two-volume edition by the Iskusstvo publishing house between 1957 and 1958. It
