A traditional Mission style vase with a molded feather design and a matte burgundy glaze. This vase is known as either the “Tobacco Leaf Vase” or “Feather vase. The heavy ceramic molded vase has a pleasing wide mouth and shoulder tapering to a smaller foot. One side has a molded feather design. The glaze is thick and unctuous, with a soft feel. The foot ring is unglazed and shows the yellow clay. There are no marks or labels. It has the production number 102 stamped into the base clay. MEASUREMENTS 5” (12.7cm) diameter x 8 ¼” (21.0 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lbs 11.3 oz (1230 g) CONDITION There are no breaks, chips, or cracks. There are a few dark scuff marks and wear scratches. There are a couple of red spots just below the shoulder that don’t wash off. There are kiln flaws like reserves, pin holes, and bumps. One pin hole near the foot is a bit larger than typical, but is a kiln flaw and not a chip. This matte burgundy glaze would fit well with any Arts & Crafts decor. Or in any Zen
