These large Nueva Cadiz beads from the African trade range from 20x12mm to 40x12mm. Nueva Cadiz are drawn beads and some of the earliest, used by the Spanish to trade in the Americas. Those Nueva Cadiz, though of the same composition and shape, were smaller. Only one strand of these big ones from the African trade, 23 inches, 17 beads Three have clearly broken ends and two others have some large chips. The others are in good to excellent condition, especially considering their age Made in Venice, Italy for the American and African trade Named after a 16th century Spanish Port off the Coast of Venezuela where they were first identified by archeologists.
