1892 Arnold Print Works "Hen and Chickens" Cloth Panel/ Uncut/ Framed Highlights: Vintage from the 19th century Description:: Antique Lithograph 1892, printed on cloth. A nesting mother hen and her 4 chicks. Originally meant to be cut out stuffed cloth toys, this “Hen and Chickens” was printed at the Arnold Print Works mill in North Adams, Massachusetts. The lithographs at the mill were produced on long bolts of cloth and then cut separately for sale. A bit of the next chick on the roll can be seen at the top right. The bonus of this piece is that 5 toys could be had in one printing – a mother hen and 4 separate chicks. Sewing instructions are printed on the cloth at the bottom right. Each chick and the hen are 2 sided and have an oval base. The patent dates are printed on the base of all 5. However, since this uncut cloth is still intact, previous owners who kept this piece in their collection preferred to preserve the lithograph in one piece. The lithograph is professionally mo
