Bazooka Joe DiMaggio
Hand-painted collectible baseball card Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak began on May 15, 1941, and ended July 17th. Joltin' Joe hit .408 during the streak (91-for-223), with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. To this day, his record streak is deemed unbreakable. Pete Rose has come the closest... with a 44-game streak of his own in 1978. DiMaggio missed the 1943-45 seasons while serving in World War II. Shortly after the war, Bazooka bubble gum was introduced by the Topps Company of Brooklyn, New York. As our men returned home, DiMaggio remained the face of the sport. In 1986, Don Mattingly gave it a good run for 24 games (August 30th to September 26th). Mattingly finished with a career high 238 hits that season, leading the majors. His '87 Topps All-Star card lists the hit leaders from '86. This gum card features additional vinyl material for the Bazooka lettering, and matching Ultra Pro card holder.
