2001 Gibson F-5L "The Fern" Radiused Fingerboard F-Style Mandolin With Case
A Bluegrass Mandolin Icon! “The Fern” F-5L model Gibson Mandolin has been considered a standard by mandolin enthusiasts since it was first introduced. This one is a 2001 model signed by Danny Roberts (has both labels visible through each f-hole,) and has a custom radiused fingerboard and bridge to match. It has been very VERY well maintained over the years. There’s hardly any wear of any kind except for just a couple of very minor dings and a tiny hairline in the finish by the bottom point that barely show when the light is just right. For the age of this mandolin I don’t believe I’ve seen a nicer one. The neck is virtually perfect with “almost” no fret wear and it plays incredibly well. There is even a string change record log with dates and notes provided. The sound is very nice also. Big fat warm woody tones. It could be a little more “open” sounding if I’m being honest...but that’s just due to the fact that it doesn’t look like this thing was ever hardly played at all.
