Only the top and some flat surfaces on the front are smooth and it's these contrasting textures and colors that make these tables so interesting and unique. Also, wood grain patterns, the shape of tops & wood/root patterns will vary from table to table as each one is unique and will not have the exact same look as the pictures above but the concept is the same. Also, splits, cracks, minor gouges, and random dark marks are common with this species of wood and some have a dramatic crack or crevice in the middle of the top surface. They can have odd spots and knots but they are part of Mother Nature's design! They should not be considered flaws but rather part of the character and style of this piece!SHI
