#181776 - 17cm Floor Board Set - Shinkaya - Shihou-masa Cut - Mulberry Bowls - Slate & Shell - Free FedEx Shipping
This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from an antique shop in Saitama, Japan. The board is 17cm thick, and stands 29cm tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated, as it creates straight lines on all 6 of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The board is in great condition, with nice edges and corners. The legs are a darker color and are probably Katsura - they are in very good shape as well. An inscription on the underside indicates it was first purchased in 1991. The bowls have a beautiful tone and wavy heather, a real delight. They may be Mulberry or something similar like Quince. The stones are slate and shell, but were not measured or counted. Visually they appear to be size 30-34 (8mm-9mm), but a go stone box is present with a label for size 37 snow-grade. The board comes with a cloth cover and paulownia lid.
