Carrols Drive In……… a step back in time It can sit on a shelf in the study, man cave or garage. This handmade diorama of Carrol’s Drive in, freezes time. It is just 24 inches long and a 18 inches deep, but somehow it holds an entire world. There it was—Carrol’s Drive In, right on Route 28 in Stoneham, Massachusetts. The colorful aluminum siding shimmered beneath neon lights. A sign reads Burgers, Fries & shakes. You can almost hear the sizzling grill and the jukebox spinning a Beach Boys tune in the back. Cars lined the parking lot. Not just any cars—our cars. Holsters’ midnight blue ‘57 Chevy with flames on the hood, Marcy’s candy-apple red 33 Ford coupe, John’s 55 409 Chevy, Joe’s chopped Merc. And of course, Dana’s jet-black 1959 big block Corvette, right in front. We are all there too, hand-painted figures leaning on our rides or sitting on the hood, soda in hand.
