This exemplary Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller 'Tandem' seating system was designed in 1962, originally for Chicago O'Hare airport and then adopted by many other airports and commercial seating projects. We restored this two-seat 'Tandem' by taking it apart completely then buffing and polishing the aluminum frame. Then reupholstered with very-high-end Edelman 'Shagreen' leather, padding and support components are integrated into the new seats, backs and armpads. We originally acquired a large quantity of Tandem benches from Chicago O'Hare airport when they remodeled. Some of the seating we acquired appears to be from the original 1962 installation and others from later years as they expanded. One important thing to note is that many dealers will sell their unrestored Tandem seating as possessing black leather slings, when in-fact they are heat pressed vinyl.
