Shown in Pewter. This lantern is based on an original design by the Swiss physicist and chemist Aim Argand. Patented in 1780, it was the first fixture to employ a hollow cylindrical wick through and around which air flows, increasing the intensity of the light produced. The invention counted among its fans Thomas Jefferson, who noted that the brightness was 6 to 10 times that of conventional wicks. Every piece is handmade to order here in our Vermont workshops.
