Jade Thacker, Embarrassment Safe Word Wheel Spin, 2020; Hand-Embellished, Signed, and Numbered Limited Edition Print Framed in White Wood
Embarrassment Safe Word Wheel Spin was a featured painting in the artist’s sold-out solo exhibition by the same name. Perfectly exemplified in this piece, Thacker often explores tension and movement in the figures of her pieces, animating them through contortion or displayed mid-action or realization. Thacker describes, “In a general sense, movement is related because I can use my own body as a vehicle for whatever type of energy into the strokes and gestures.” Jade Alexis Thacker’s work is self-reflective; she creates different characters and icons that the artist can slip in and out of in an attempt to better understand herself and her exploration of anxiety, discomfort, self-image, and perception. She has a background in printmaking, which is clear in her layered approach to painting. She claims “it also made me more open to what’s out of my control....sometimes things come out differently than you intended and sometimes that’s the most beautiful part.” Jade ThackerEmbarrassme
