This Mappe Monde, created by French Royal Geographer Guillaume de L'Isle in 1720, follows the journeys of notable explorers such as St. Antoine, Mandana, and Quir, as well as Dutchmen Abel Tasman, from which Tasmania was named after. It was one of the first maps to portray California with a continuous coastline and to accurately display the tip of South America.
