This is an original study of a landscape by Henry Varnum Poor. This colorful and abstract mixed media drawing depicts a vast landscape with green grass and a road on the right side, on the background we can see a mountain in black and blue tones and above it a cloudy sky in rich light blue and gray tones and playful black traces that compose the shape of dense clouds. The drawing is signed ‘H V P’ on the bottom left in black ink and is in excellent condition, having only one small tear on the top right edge of the paper that does not affect the picture. Henry Varnum Poor studied in Stanford as an economics major but graduated with a degree in fine art. After a year studying in London, Poor returned to California and taught at his alma mater. He eventually settled in Rockland County, New York, where he built a farmhouse and worked to establish himself as an artist.
