2008 La Spinetta "Gallina" Barbaresco

La Spinetta is one of the elite estates for ripe, sensual full-bodied Barbaresco with more texture than tannin. The reputation of the estate through the early oughts was that of a modernist, but by the late 2000s, the house had begun a maturation in style, with less green harvest for big ripeness, less new oak, and less extraction. These releases are still very much lavishly styled and taste of expensive fruit and winemaking, but I found the 2007 Valeirano to be exceptional and tasteful with a steak dinner I had two months ago. Only the most diehard ideologues amongst us would reject the style outright because of its generous fruit and polish. These are lovely releases that will be enjoyed by anyone who you share them with, not just Nebbiolo-heads. The La Spinetta releases are packaged in single vineyard six packs with two bottles of each vintage (2006-2007-2008) that came directly from the estate's cellar.
