“I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head.” Bronze sculpture of Joseph Smith's First Vision Hall is a descendant of painter John B. Fairbanks and a youthful student of sculptor Avard T. Fairbanks, his great uncle, both of whom had an enormous influence on Hall. This traditional realist figurative sculptor and painter continues the artist tradition of his forbearers. His artistic strengths include multifigured haute-relief narrative bronzes and monumental pieces. One bronze, Angel of the Resurrections, is a centerpiece to the Lynndyl Juab County Cemetery. As a youth, he filled his family's basement with frescoes and was encouraged by his mother to pursue his passion for painting and sculpture. He is considered one of the most significant sculptors in America with international experience in Italy and Russia, where he served an LDS Mission in St. Petersburg.
