1802 Senator James Ross to Lawrence Lewis, George Washington Nephew & Estate Executor. Mount Vernon, VA, delivered by Colonel Simms

1802 manuscript hand forwarded (by Colonel Simms) postal wrap from Senator James Ross (1762-1847) to Lawrence Lewis (1767-1827), Mount Vernon, Virginia.  1802 docketed as received from Honorable James Ross.    Lawrence Lewis was the nephew of George Washington (son of George Washington's younger sister Elizabeth "Betty" Washington Lewis (1733-1797).  Lawrence Lewis married Eleanor Parke Custis in 1799, a granddaughter of Martha Washington.   Lawrence Lewis was one of the executors of George Washington's estate following his death.  James Ross was George Washington's negotiator in the Whiskey Rebellion and personal attorney (affidavit George Washington signed giving power of attorney to Ross in 1795 may be viewed here).  Ross also served in the US Senate as a Federalist representing Pennsylvania from 1794 to 1803.  He was Senator Pro Tempore in 1799.   Colonel Simms may refer to Continental Army Colonel Charles Simms, another close George Washington associate, who also served as one of
