1790 1st NC US Senator Samuel Johnston signed letter to James Iredell re Supreme Court opening, nominated by Washington 6 days later

Letter signed Feb 2, 1790 by NC's 1st US Senator Samuel Johnston to his brother-in-law James Iredell (Iredell was married to Johnston's sister Hannah) regarding a possible Supreme Court opening.  James Iredell was nominated by President George Washington 6 days later and he was confirmed by the Senate in May.  He served until his death in 1799.  Condition as pictured.
