1009-03 PRR F41A Flatcar - HO Scale
The 110 F41A bulkhead flats were gradually converted from standard F41 flatcars between 1956 and 1965. They were originally converted for wallboard service, and featured A end lockers for tiedown storage. Two interesting features were that the lockers could only be opened standing on the deck of an empty car, and that there were two layers of deck boards to facilitate the installation of deck tiedowns. Over time, it appears the lockers fell into disuse, with doors becoming heavily damaged, and often being replaced by plain boards. Some F41A were returned to their original configurations by Conrail in the 1980s.Special thanks to Mike from Custom Model Depot for producing the laser cut decks. Decals for these cars in PRR, PC, and CR schemes are available from Mount Vernon Shops. Kit does not include trucks, couplers, or decals. Provisions for mounting air hoses and Tangent uncoupling levers (neither are included) are provided. Decals and lettering are shown for informative purposes only
