Automata: The Golden Age, 1848-1914 by Christian Bailly, with Sharon Bailly, is a fabulous coffee table book in excellent condition published by Sotheby’s Publications in 1987.  This is a first-edition book in like-new condition.  This book is compiled for the collector of automaton, and all those who are interested in  automata.  The first section of the book gives a history of the automata industry in Paris, as well as seven leading makers in the 1800s and very early 1900s.  Then, the book explores the making, mechanisms, musical movements, and restoration of the automaton.  Finally, there is a section of maker’s catalogues and original price lists.  This book measures 9.75” x 12.5” and is 1.5” thick.  It contains 360 pages of text, color, and black and white photography and illustration.  It wears a dust jacket.
