
Santa Clare Retablo Ornament
Santa Clare is the Patroness of Needleworkers, Embroiderers, Goldsmiths, Laundry, Gilders, Telephones, Telegraphs, Television and Santa Clara Pueblo; Invoked against Sore Eyes and Eye Disease. Foundress of the nuns referred to as "Poor Clare's". She was inspired by San Francisco who was a friend and a mentor. She ran away from home to a chapel where San Francisco shaved off her hair, took away her beautiful noblewoman clothes and married her to Christ in a rough brown robe. Soon after, her Sister Agnes and other women joined her. They lived a life of poverty. They ate no meat, wore no shoes and were silent most of the time. Lynn Garlick Retablos grew organically over a period of 20 years. To create these heart-felt paintings of saints, angels and blessings, Lynn has brought to the folk art of Retablo making, all the skills and passions that she has learned through a lifetime of drawing, woodworking and painting.
